Healing Machine for Jenny
For the fear of not finding the reason to make big decisions.
You will get a single yellow Post-It note in the mail. When it comes, you'll fold it in half, and then in half again. You will put it in your mouth and chew, chew, chew, imagining the flavors and warm company of duck Thanksgiving with your sister. When you swallow it, you will feel full. You may feel like dancing. You'll dance with your old teddy bear and feel all time passing through you, even the parts you have struggled to digest - the regret, the fear of falling behind, the missed opportunities.
You'll wake up with a nagging feeling that you've forgotten something. You won't notice the change at first, but slowly, slowly, it will reveal itself. You'll have the urge to wash your hands, but it won't do any good. By midday, you'll come to understand it: your fingertips have become sticky with Post-It glue. It's not too strong, you realize, just enough to get the job done. You won't have to wonder about big decisions anymore. The glue will hold only what it's meant to hold. It will release the rest.
